Kodaikanal

Enjoy the cooler air at Kodaikanal. Take a trip in a boat on the lake, explore the surroundings on horseback, take in a game of golf or take one of the many hill walks in the area. A complete contrast to the environment at Lakeside and not to be missed.

Madurai

Visit the magnificent Meenakshi Temple - up to 10,000 visitors a day come to worship or just to enjoy the stunning architecture and art to be found here. Shop for souvenirs in the lively markets surrounding the Temple or in one of the Government shops. There is plenty to do and see on a day out to Madurai.

Thiruparakundrum

Visit this remarkable temple site. See the ancient Jain temple carved into the rock itself, and the busy Hindu temple with its carvings and paintings; if you feel energetic why not climb to the top of the rocky outcrop to see another Hindu shrine and the tomb of the Muslim fakir Sikannder as well as some magnificent views.

After lunch continue your day out with shopping in Madurai before driving back to Lakeside.

Local Village and Rural Crafts

See the weaving of a beautiful sari; visit the workshop of the local potter; find out what goes on in a local coir factory; visit the local village market and school; drive through the local countryside to see local agriculture at work. For those new to southern India this is a trip not to be missed.
